Final Exams. Don't Make Me Run Away

Picture if you will:

You are seated in the doctor’s office and she is preparing you for a delicate surgery. She tells you, “I’ve never done this before and have never observed anyone doing it, but since I work in a hospital I may be able to figure it out. Hopefully I’ve absorbed the information I need just by hanging around the other doctors. If the surgery is not successful I will retire and run away.”

THIS is where we stand with final exams this semester. Our final exam scheduler retired, although she didn’t need to run away (lucky). I have never done finals or watched anyone doing them but since I work in a registrar’s office I should be able to figure it out. While most of the information I absorb tends to be of a personal and off color nature, hopefully I’ve absorbed something that might be useful in scheduling final exams.

The deadline to submit the request for a final exam survey was Friday, March 4. I noticed that we are about 100 final exam requests short of what we had last spring. I hope this means we are giving fewer finals rather than 100 people failed to make the March 4 survey deadline. On the off chance we are dealing with the latter, we are leaving the survey open for TWO MORE DAYS, through Thursday, March 10. Any requests that come in after that will not make it into the exam scheduling process and will most likely have to be given on Saturday to avoid conflicts for the students.

If you failed to submit your exam request on time, please do it immediately. If you still forget to submit it and it’s after Thursday, please keep it to yourself.

Don’t make me have to retire and run away…
