GreenSaver Rideshare Program: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the GreenSaver Rideshare Program?
The MCC GreenSaver Rideshare Program was launched on June 1, 2010.  The program is designed to help students save on gasoline cost and parking expenses at the BrightonCampus, especially in lieu of the newly structured parking permit fees. It will also hopefully reduce the total number of vehicles on campus.

Why is it called the GreenSaver Rideshare Program?
The program was designed to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicles on campus, and thereby directly supports the county and college’s sustainability commitment. “Green” initiatives has been a very important issue for our students and student leaders.

How much does it cost?
Brighton parking permits cost students $75.00 per semester ($50.00 for the summer). The GreenSaver Rideshare permit cost only $50 per semester and can be used by two or more students. To participate in the GreenSaver Rideshare program, a team consisting of two or more individuals must agree to share the use of their vehicles, with only one vehicle on campus at a time. Each team member must register his or her vehicle through the MCC Parking Services office (7-341) and only one permit will be issued for each team. One student will be designated team captain and will be responsible for the return of the parking gate card and permit.

Where are the GreenSaver Rideshare spaces located?
There are a total of 135 GreenSaver Rideshare spaces on campus. They are located in parking lots A (55 spaces), C (45 spaces) and J (35 spaces). These areas were carefully selected by a committee of faculty, staff and students and were based on several parking surveys that were conducted last year. The results of the research conducted over several days at various times throughout the day indicated that on average there were over 60 vacant parking spaces in Lot A. Parking in these areas are first come, first serve. Individuals found violating the conditions of the agreement must forfeit their permits. Any vehicle parked illegally in a GreenSaver Rideshare space will be subject to a citation and/or towing. Individuals will be charged $50 to replace lost or stolen cards or permits.

Do I have to re-apply each semester?
Yes, the GreenSaver Rideshare permits expire at the end of each semester. Students interested in renewing their GreenSaver permit must reapply. The
permit application is available online or in the Parking Services office (7-341). Applicants must return the form to the office in person and bring their student ID card and driver’s license. Office hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Friday. For more information about the program, call (585) 292-2700.

Can faculty or staff participate?
Interested faculty and staff may also participate in the program with the purchase of a GreenSaver Rideshare permit.

What if I can’t find a space?
These spaces will be closely monitored by Public Safety, but in the unlikely event that a GreenSaver Rideshare space is not available, permit holders must park in any other legal space and contact Public Safety at 292-2912. GreenSaver Rideshare permits may not park in handicapped or other reserved areas on campus.
