Greetings, all! I had the pleasure to address the United Way kickoff in the Empire Room. At the request of our campaign’s leaders Pat Bates and Peter Collinge, here is a very brief reprise of my remarks.
The Greater Rochester area is a place of terrific contrasts-one of the most stark is that of childhood poverty, violence and uncertain family support. These infant/childhood challenges translate into poor educational attainment. Even though MCC is blessed with many well-prepared and motivated students, we also enroll many students with educational deficits. Many of the United Way programs work to address these early childhood challenges and their consequences. Supporting United Way supports our future students.
