News from the January MCC Board of Trustees Meeting

The MCC Board of Trustees met on Monday, January 30, 2023, and took the following actions:

  1. Adopted the consent agenda effective January 30, 2023
  2. Recieved a presentation on  the annual audit of Monroe Community College for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2022, by Bonadio & Co., LLP
  3. Accepted operating disbursements totaling $8,287,527.97 for the month of November 2022, $9,097,551.79 for the month of December 2022, subject to final audit.
  4. Accepted the Interim Financial Reports as of November 30 and December 31, 2022.
  5. Authorized Purchase of items over $20,000 as listed for the months of November and December 2022
  6. Approved the appointment of Dr. Margaret Semmer as Provost and Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs. This annual appointment will begin on February 1, 2023 and continue through August 31, 2023. The salary for the period ending August 31, 2023 is $180,000, prorated for the period of this appointment.
  7. The Board voted to support The State University of New York Board of Trustees resolution to offer in-state tuition to students from nations granted Temporary Protected Status, including those who cannot return home and prospective students seeking safety and opportunity.

The Board heard presentations from:

  • Sage Garcia provided a Student Testimonial
  • My Linh “Mia” Le, Student Trustee update included her participation in the 1/18 Leadership Retreat
  • William Dixon, Director, Research, regarding the Student Success Dashboard with Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Measurements 
  • Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna, provided the President’s Update, including a statement on the death of Tyre Nichols on behalf of MCC; welcoming Dr. Semmers to MCC and recognizing Dr. Kimberly McKinsey-Mabry for the excellence of her service as Acting Provost and Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs. Dr. Burt-Nanna recognized Director of Human Resources Kristin Lowe, who will be leaving MCC in March to pursue other opportunities and thanked her for service. Also included was the recent visit of Congressman Morelle on1/19 to the ATC to announce the $3.4 funding investment in the new ATC.
  • Dr. Robin Cole Jr., Economic & Workforce Development & Career Technical Education (EDIWS) on EDIWS activities, Dr. Calvin Gantt, Vice President, Diversity, Equity and Belonging and Executive Director, Downtown Campus on division activities; Greg Hinton, CFO/Vice President, on Administrative Services activities; Dr. Kimberly McKinsey-Mabry, Acting Provost & Vice President on Academic Service activities; Gretchen Wood, Vice President, Institutional Advancement and Executive Director, MCC Foundation, on Institutional Advancement activities and on behalf of Board of Directors Chair Lori Van Dusen regarding Foundation activities, including the upcoming 25th Annual Gold Star Gala and the 39th Annual Scholarship Open
  • Shared Governance representatives including Student Government Association President Paula Barlow, Faculty Senate President Nadya Pares-Kane, and Dr. Burt-Nanna representing Administration. Support Staff Planning Council submitted a written update
  • Faculty Association and CSEA leaders did not provide an update.
