AARP Center Folds

Like the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models who have to pose in December in their bikinis to make the spring SI issue, so Mary Anne Gooding and I toil (sans bikinis) on the master schedule and classroom assignments a season ahead of every one else. We AARP swimsuit models are currently working in the spring 2005 semester; we mentally put fall 2004 to bed after the first week of classes.

I am not putting this horrible vision of me modeling swimsuits in your head to scare you, although I'm sure that thought could prove a deterrent to all kinds of behavior and I may use it in the future. I'm alerting you to the master schedule/room assignment process chronology to let you know that it is NOT too early to look at your spring 2005 room assignments. Although classrooms will be shuffled like a deck of cards between now and January, this is the prime time to move courses to specific classrooms. Off phase classes and classes requiring a specific room are easier to place at the beginning of the assignment process rather than the end. If you have a specific need, let me know in October or November rather than in January!

People often wonder why they have to continually tell me they need a smart classroom when they filled out a survey several semesters ago. While this survey information was input into the Ad Astra room scheduling system which connects people to room needs, this information only works when people have been assigned to courses. Since I start assigning rooms as soon as the master schedule goes to print, most of the courses still list "STAFF" as the instructor for the course and I have no idea if that course needs a smart classroom or whether I am putting your 9:00 class in building 4 and your 10:00 class in building 12.  (OK. Sometimes I do this just to mess with you, but not that often.)

If we work together throughout the room assignment process it will be easier to ensure that you have the room type you need for your course this spring.
