Power of Diversity Series event on Monday, Nov. 9, with presentations and workshops at the Brighton and Damon City campuses. The event is sponsored by MCC’s Diversity Council.

Differences exist. They can create challenges or opportunities that may either invigorate or divide a classroom, an organization, a community or a nation. In an increasingly diverse world, intercultural competency is a critical part of personal and professional development in every community and every sector of the economy. Learning to work effectively across differences and resolve cultural conflicts are critical educational outcomes related to productivity, service delivery, team building and community development.

By linking the college’s overall strategic development with its strategic diversity and inclusion goals the college can become more effective in hiring and retaining staff, educating its diverse student body, and serving its community. Intercultural Organizational Development brings together vision, skill building, and the development of policies and procedures to help the college interact with cultural difference in increasingly complex ways that creates a campus that is successful in developing a supportive learning environment for all.

“Out and About: LGBT Inclusion”

Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) people have always been an integral, if often invisible, part of college life and American communities. On most campuses across the country, LGBT students, staff,and faculty are coming out and being visible in increasing numbers. In this session, we will discuss issues related to diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity and efforts to improve campus climate.
