Twenty-five years ago this spring, MCC students began commemorating Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Yom HaShoah is a memorial day for the 6 million Jewish people and other victims of the Holocaust (1933-1945).
Please plan to join the Holocaust, Genocide, Human Rights Project in remembering those who were lost and the many lessons of the Holocaust that remain relevant to this day. This year’s anniversary commemoration will be held on Thursday, April 23 beginning with an Opening Ceremony at 9:30 am in the Flynn Campus Center Atrium. Our daylong commemoration includes:
* Opening Ceremony 9:30 am
* Calling of the Names and Candle Lighting 10 am to 3 pm
* Local Holocaust Survivor Testimonies 10 am, 11:30 am and 1 pm. The HGHRP is honored to welcome back to campus Steven Hess, a survivor of Bergen Belsen and Westerbork concentration camps; Helen Levinson, a survivor of the Majdanek concentration camp; and Eva Abrams, a survivor of Auschwitz.
In honor of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, this year's commemoration culminates in a keynote presentation featuring Alan Moskin, a U.S. Army Veteran who participated in the liberation of the Gunskirchen concentration camp, a sub-camp of Mauthausen. Mr. Moskin's presentation will be held in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A/B).
This event is free an open to the public. Please join us for this very moving and important experience.
