This evening and Saturday, the Mathematics Department will host approximately 200 mathematics faculty members from 50 colleges and universities in the Warshof Conference Center. These visitors will be attending a joint conference of Region 1 of the New York State Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) and the Seaway Section of Mathematical Association of America (MAA). They will be welcomed by Dr. Michael McDonough, Dean of Liberal Arts. The kickoff talk, entitled "Math Busters!" will be given by Dr. Mark McKinzie, formerly of the MCC Mathematics faculty and currently at St. John Fisher College. The conference schedule includes more than 40 additional sessions plus a number of student papers.
Many thanks to the conference organizing committee led by Aimee Calhoun for their months of effort in organizing this event. Other committee members are Linda Carson, Elena Dilai, Jason Mahar, Kim Martello, Karen Wells. If you see them wearing smiles next week, you'll know that all of their preparation paid off in a wonderful event!
