A Call for NEW Writing Intensive (WR) Course Proposals

While department chairs and schedulers are busy figuring out what will be offered next semester, now is the perfect time for you to update the courses you typically teach.  The Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) steering committee is looking to broaden our WR course offerings for students, especially in STEM and career training fields, and welcomes your new WR course proposals.

There’s a reason WR has long been a high-impact practice, and the benefits for student and professor alike transcend buzzwords. By writing to learn course material, students have a hand—literally—in their own education. What’s more: students earn special recognition on their diplomas if they maintain a B average in 30 hours or more of WR courses.

Chances are good that you might already be teaching a WR course unofficially—or you may be closer than you think! See MCC’s Guidelines for Writing-Intensive Courses: https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/wac/fac_res/guidelns.htm.

Ready to make the commitment? The WAC Steering Committee is currently accepting new WR course proposals for Spring 2016:

If you have questions or concerns about WR course design and becoming WR-certified, your colleagues on the Steering Committee are happy to assist.  We look forward to working with you!
