Day 4 of TCC Gratitude Series: Kudos to MCC Faculty!

Please see below for even more well-deserved kudos submitted by students to recognize some of our amazing MCC faculty. Tune in tomorrow and every day for the next six days to see even more. Thank you, MCC, for all you do for your students and each other.

  • Monika Bentley, Nursing
    • Monika is the most positive, driven, and compassionate educator I have had in college. She made coming to class SO fun and her attitude was just always so positive, warm, and welcoming.
  • Mike Britton, HED
    • I have always been nervous about going to the gym because I did not know how to use the machines. Professor Britton has created a safe space for me where I can have fun. He has taught valuable lessons of where to start lifting and other information such as keeping a healthy schedule. I look forward to his class every day.
  • Dr. Heather Carrera, Health
    • She is really passionate about health and wellness and tries her best in every class to pass that passion on to the students. Professor Carrera is really eloquent as well as experienced, can always answer questions and is ready to help in personal health questions too. What I really appreciate is that she involves us students very often which makes the lessons even more interesting! Thank you!
  • Matthew Della Porta, Psychology
    • Dr. Matt is an amazing professor! He truly cares about the success of his students. He takes time out of his busy personal schedule to help with tutoring hours that work best for his students. He's a teacher NOT a presenter. He honestly goes above and beyond. He has great energy and will keep you engaged during class. You will come to every exam well prepared and confident. If you do your share of the required work he doesn't mind helping you reach your grade goal. I wish there were more professors like him honestly.
  • Rollo Fisher, VAPA
    • The modules were all released at once, so students are able to move at their own pace. The professor was prompt in grading and provided clear feedback to help improve on the next assignment. Overall great class! Thank you!
  • Lori Moses, VAPA
    • She went out of her way to have each and every student understand the class content, even when it took many tries and a lot of patience to do so. It is easy to tell that she wants all her students to do well because as long as you're putting effort into what is asked of you for each assignment, she will give a very good deserving grade. She is also very nice and makes the class environment very friendly and comfortable.
  • John Nyerges, VAPA
    • Professor Nyerges is a kind individual who dedicates his time to helping his students learn about music, and he makes it fun. His humor and engagement with his students help create an environment that a student could call home.
  • Michael Ofsowitz, Psychology  Two nominations!
    • Professor Ofsowitz has been amazing ! He has worked with me and has allowed me to make up work and tests this semester and has been very understanding with the fact I have missed a lot due to my daughter and I being very sick. He has checked in on me and asked about my daughter making sure we are okay. His class is my favorite because he makes class interesting and fun. He’s one of the best professors I have had well at MCC and I could never thank him enough for being so understanding. It means a lot to me.
    • He is one of the nicest teachers I've had since I started going to MCC. It seems like he genuinely cares about the students. Professor Ofsowitz always makes jokes in the classroom, and I find that it does help me understand the class more especially because I have a hard time just understanding Psychology. He always has a lot of energy which also makes the class a lot more fun. I enjoy going to his class even if I'm not doing great in it.
  • Mark Sample, History
    • Overall a great teacher is more than willing to explain the topic at hand and engage with students. While his pace can be fast at times, he explains everything with detail and passion that it makes it impossible not to be excited about a class.
  • David Shaw, VAPA  Two nominations!
    • This professor does a great job at providing feedback and has a great online class set up. I have never been more interested in course work to where it feels like something I would want to research in my own time than when I am in this class. Professor Shaw is always very knowledgeable and quick to respond to questions. Thanks for all the hard work you put in for your students!
    • He is a very good professor. When I didn't understand on the class, he always patiently taught me after class. I learned a lot from him. I didn't miss any classes of his because he taught things that are very valuable.
  • Rita Straubhaar, World Languages and Cultures
    • I would like to nominate Professor Straubhaar because she makes learning American Sign Language easier than I thought it was going to be. She makes learning ASL fun and enjoyable for everyone in the class. While it has been a little difficult being my first major experience with sign, it has been less daunting thanks to her and my other classmates. I express immense gratitude that I was able to take ASL under her teaching.
  • Franzie Weldgen, VAPA
    • Franzie is an amazing professor, his class feels like a time where I can relax and just let my creativity flow through my artwork. As well, he has a brilliant mind and is amazingly helpful with anything from nailing down a concept to the last minute details. A good art environment is one where you feel at home, and I feel all of that and more when Franzie teaches.
  • Wanda Willard, Psychology
    • I would like to give thanks to my professor for extending herself above and beyond her job's description and responsibilities to just listen if nothing else without judgement. I appreciate your kindness and your compassion for the well-being of others. I can honestly say that it shows in and will not go unnoticed, so I would like to say thank you for being there for me and supplying the class with information and resources to help us push through not only the semester but life as a whole.
  • Beth Wilson, Psychology
    • Professor Wilson went above and beyond to help me get to where I am. She was understanding about all the things I’ve been through this year going from looking for a place to live to my son being sick. I appreciate her for giving me studying advice and note taking advice.
