1 Youth, 1 Dream, 2morrow's Leader

The American Association for Women in Community Colleges – MCC Chapter (AAWCC) will sponsor Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 15, 2010. We need your help to make this event a success!

With your participation, children attending the event will enjoy a full day of activities and informative presentations. Can we count on you to make a presentation? Presentations are generally 50 minutes in length and run from 9:00 am to noon.

The main objective of the event is to help our sons and daughters:
* Connect their school work with the real world;
* Share their personal vision, turning it into tomorrow’s reality;
* Figure out how their future work, home, and community life fit together;
* Explore a variety of job options and learn the types of things they like to do;
* Learn about the work their parents, mentors, and/or other relatives conduct and its importance to the workplace;
* Learn about the workplace—how it functions, its goals, mission, products and services;
* Discover there are limitless opportunities available to them;
* Build their self-esteem; and
* Understand the importance of sharing power and possibility, and through working together they can build a more equitable world.

Presentations should be based upon the theme: “1 Youth, 1 Dream, 2morrow’s Leader.” The theme is written in “texting” format and will hopefully prompt numerous discussions concerning goals, dreams and leadership. The theme should encourage discussions among participants concerning the dreams they have, the dreams other people in their lives have, and the dreams of those persons who have become great leaders such as Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and other individuals that have opened doors. In addition, the discussions by the youth will help them understand that all leaders don't have to be famous nor influence millions of people.

If you are interested in presenting on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day at either the Brighton or Damon City campus, please fill out the attached form and return it to Yolanda Johnson (Campus Events) or Brigitte Martineau (Mathematics) by March 16, 2010.

Help us make April 15 a great day!
