Advisement Tips

  1. Choose what level of teacher certification you are seeking

    • Early Childhood certification (Birth - 2nd grade)
    • Childhood Certification (1-6th grade)
    • Adolescent Certification (9-12th grade)

  2. Choose your content core concentration

    • Education students are “Double Majors”
    • Students must choose a subject concentration at all levels of certification (ex. math, science, English, etc.)

  3. Start your 4 year college search within your 1st semester at MCC

    • Choose a school that best suits your professional goals (see Education dept. for career advisement)
      • Levels of Teacher Certification
      • Concentration areas
      • GPA requirements

  4. MCC is partnered with the following schools. Students who transfer to one of these 4 year colleges will have a greater chance of their MCC courses transferring to these schools.

    • SUNY Brockport
    • SUNY Buffalo State
    • SUNY Cortland
    • SUNY Fredonia
    • SUNY Geneseo
    • SUNY Oswego
    • Keuka College
    • Daemen College
    • Nazareth College
    • Niagara Univeristiy
    • Roberts Wesleyan College
    • St. John Fisher College
  5. If you have selected one of the colleges listed above, you can determine which MCC classes to take by reviewing the 2+2 Degree Audit Sheet for that particular college.
  6. If you have questions, always consult with an advisor from the education department. The New York Teacher Education Certification requirements, as well as, transferability of courses to 4 year colleges, change frequently. The best advice is to seek advice!
