COM 114 - Communication Theory

A broad overview of principles and theories of human communication and rhetoric, this course explores communication processes in a variety of contexts, including intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, and mass communication.

Course Learning Outcomes
1.Identify various communication theories
2.Analyze the role intrapersonal communication theories play in the formation of identity or perception
3.Apply rhetorical theory to a variety of situations or case studies
4.Evaluate how media messages impact, persuade, or influence society
5.Analyze a variety of interpersonal settings through communication theories
6.Apply theories to communicate ethically and efficiently
7.Analyze the role that communication plays in the creation or perpetuation of the dynamics of power, privilege, oppression, or opportunity
