Head Men’s Basketball Coach
Jerry Burns

Jerry Burns joined the Tribunes as Head Coach in 1991. Prior to his arrival at Monroe Community College, Burns served two years as an Assistant Coach at Division I Wagner College on Staten Island. Utilizing his keen eye for talent, Jerry was responsible for recruiting several players who helped establish Wagner as a force in the Northeastern Conference. Burns began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Region III rival Champlain College in 1986. After two years at Champlain and one year before joining Wagner, he moved to St Michael's College, a Division II school in Winooski, Vermont.

Burns, a 14th year Head Coach of the Monroe Community College Men's Basketball Program, has utilized his past experience and Savvy to build an impressive 345-84 record. That is an amazing 81% winning percentage. An untiring work ethic, the ability to identify with his players and a passion for the game have enabled Coach Burns to win four Western New York Athletic Conference Championships, five Regional Championships and Three District Championships. The 1994 trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship Tournament resulted in an unprecedented third place finish.

These accomplishments have not gone without reward. Burns has been named Region III Coach of the Year in 1993, '94, '97 and 2004 and District II Coach of the Year three times (1993,'94, 2004). He has also collected Coach of the Year honors for the Western New York Athletic Conference in 1997 and 2004 and also the New York State Junior College Coach of the Year in 1994 and 2004. Capping off this seemingly endless list of awards is the coveted Basketball Times Coach of the Year, which he won in 1994.

The 41-year-old Coach Burns epitomizes the dedication and devotion necessary to continue and improve the tradition of excellence the Monroe Community College Men's Basketball Program is accustomed to. He resides in Fairport, NY with his wife Debra and children Ross, Jenna and Julia.
