TCC (Brighton): Effectively Communicating Our Goals with Students
Join Penny Sayles, Health and Physical Education, for a conversation across-discipline about how we get students to buy-in to classes starting from the first minutes. During this session, a few successful teaching models, specific to student engagement at the beginning of class, will be also highlighted and participants can share their own experiences and practice.
- How do you share the objectives of the class that you are teaching with students?
- When does this occur?
- How do you share the knowledge and skills that students are expected to attain in class?
Helping students understand how each class connects to their program/major/life goal is a practice that supports the Pathways model. Faculty all over campus have multiple ways to share their course goals with students and help them see why they need to learn the content. Come to share what's working for you and to learn what others are doing. This will be a low key collegial sharing session.
