Geologists Go West!
Geosciences faculty members Jessica Barone and Amanda Colosimo recently returned from the Geological Society of America Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA. Jessica presented a paper about the importance of professional development opportunities, including field experiences, when designing curriculum and courses for students. Amanda presented a paper discussing research she conducted to measure the effects of the course redesign she implemented after participating in the STEM Institute at MCC in 2015. Former MCC student, Leanna McLane, now a Geneseo geology student, also presented a paper analyzing the effects of geologic processes occurring in the Central Range Mountains of Trinidad. Amanda and Jessica also took advantage of the opportunity to visit Olympic and Mt. Ranier National Parks, gaining first-hand experience and photographs of this scenic and geologically-interesting region to enrich their lessons at MCC.
