Green Tip: Smog of the Sea

Did you miss the Sustainability Day Program “Break Free from Plastic?” No worries, you can view the short 30-minute film Smog of the Sea on vimeo (Video without CC) for free. 

The film also has a site where you can read about actions you can take to help reduce plastic waste: 

  • Reduce single-use plastic bag use 
  • Reduce single-use water bottles 
  • Reduce the use of plastic straws 

Disposable plastic items do not biodegrade, they just break into micro-particles that contaminate our environment.  According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), only 9% of plastic waste is recycled. For a quick 5-minute overview of the plastic issue, view The Story of Plastic (Animated Short Video).  The short was created in 2021 by The Story of Stuff Project, a group that produces animated shorts and documentaries that chart a path to a more just and sustainable future.
