Passing of Thomas F. Murphy, Retired Vice President for Administrative Affairs

The MCC family mourns the loss of Thomas Francis “Murph” Murphy, retired Vice President for Administrative Affairs, who passed away on February 2, 2024, at age 88.

After attending Cornell University and Elmira College, Murph earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ithaca College. Vice President Murphy had a 30-year career in the SUNY Community College System and started at MCC in 1983 as Vice President for Administrative Affairs. His service to the College included active membership in the Eastern Association of College and University Business (EACUBO), active planning committee membership in the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), and being selected as the Regional Outstanding Business Officer of the National Council of Community College Business Officials (NCCCBO). After his 11-year career at MCC, Murph retired in 1994 and then moved to Venice, FL, in 1995.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy Murphy, and sons Thomas Murphy, Jr. (Alison) of Wesley Chapel and Robert Murphy (Sandra) of Fairport, NY; grandchildren Jack, Emily, Ryan, and David. Predeceased by his son, Mark K. Murphy (Atlanta, GA, 2017), and grandson, Tommy Murphy (Penfield, NY, 2016).
