Passing of Jane (Lowenthal) Garr, Retiree, Nursing

The MCC family mourns the passing of Jane (Lowenthal) Garr, MCC Nursing Department retiree, on December 23, 2023, at the age of 88.

A graduate of Wheaton College, Jane earned her nursing degree from Monroe Community College and later joined MCC in 1971 as an instructor in the Nursing Department. During her tenure at MCC, she created a nursing scholarship for deserving students and was a State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching nominee. Jane served on numerous committees at MCC during her career. Following 21 years of service, she retired in 1992 as an Associate Professor of Nursing and moved to Vero Beach, FL.

Predeceased by Daniel M. Garr, her husband of 64 years, she is survived by her children, David Garr of Lakeworth, FL; Jeffrey Garr (Tania) of Naples, FL; Susan Giancola (Dave) of Fairport, NY; and Nancy Peixoto (Joseph) of North Dighton, MA; sister Nancy Brooke of Hants, England; grandchildren Megan O'Hare (Sean), Jack Garr, Jackie Phan, David Giancola Jr. (Shannon), Lauren Downing (James), Christopher Peixoto (Angela), and Julianne Lima (Daniel); great-grandchildren Colson, Benjamin, Ryder, and Evelyn.
