Tech Alert: MCC WiFi Changes

In Fall 2021, our MCC WiFi underwent upgrades that resulted in enhanced speeds, coverage, and security – introducing the “MCC” WiFi for all students and employees to use with their MCC email address. As we continue to expand on the capabilities of our WiFi, we are introducing new WiFi options for visitors to the College and for guests at events.

There will be 5 WiFi Networks available at MCC**:

  • MCC: for use by students and employees with their MCC email address
  • MCC-Visitor: for use by visitors to the Brighton Campus, Downtown Campus**, and Applied Technology Center
  • PSTF-Visitor: for use by visitors to the Public Safety Training Facility
  • MCC-Events: for use at functions scheduled through Campus Events with visitors to campus
  • EDIWS-Visitor**: for use by visitors to Floors 5, 6, and 7 on the Downtown Campus

**Upgrades for Downtown Campus will take place in 2024-25 and more details will be announced at that time.

Availability and Session Limits

Some of the new options will have different service hours and session lengths based on input from the Campus Systems Committee and staff at the locations. If a visitor is signed into the WiFi for longer than the session length, they will have to reauthenticate to continue to use the WiFi. Visitors will authenticate through a text message when signing in to either the MCC-Visitor or the PSTF-Visitor WiFi.

  • MCC-Visitor will be available 24x7 on the Brighton Campus with a one-hour session length.
  • MCC-Visitor will be available 6am to 11pm at the Applied Technology Center with a four-hour session length.
  • PSTF-Visitor will be available 6am to 11pm with a four-hour session length.

MCC-Events

Access to MCC-Events will be set up by request for each event. Authentication will be through a splash page click-through with a default session length of four hours.

If you are using MCC-Crypto or MCC-Guest, please “forget” those options on your devices and login using MCC for WiFi when on campus. If you need assistance, please call the Employee Technology Support Center at (585) 292-8324, option 3, Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 4:45pm.
