Use MCC Libraries' College Researcher in Your Spring Courses

MCC Libraries’ College Researcher, our award-winning collection of online tutorials on college-level research skills, is available for you to use in your Spring courses in Brightspace! Check it out under My Courses in Brightspace, or log into Brightspace and then click on this direct link: MCC College Researcher.

Here are step-by-step guidelines for incorporating the MCC College Researcher as an assignment in your class. Feel free to modify as needed.

Instructions:

  1. In your Brightspace course, click on Assessments; Assignments; New Assignment.
  2. For Title, fill in: MCC College Researcher. For Grade out of:, fill in points according to your grading scheme. For Due Date, fill in your due date.
  3. Under Instructions, copy and paste the following text: The MCC College Researcher is a set of “missions” (tutorials) you can complete to learn college research skills. As you progress through three missions (Library Navigator, Online Explorer, and Strategic Searcher), you’ll earn digital “mission badge” certificates to mark your achievements, leading up to the Inquisitive Explorer Adventure Badge certificate. Visit MCC College Researcher to complete these missions. Once you receive the Inquisitive Explorer Adventure Badge certificate in your email, download the file to your computer, then upload it below.
  4. Place the assignment in your desired location in your course, and check that it is incorporated correctly into your grade book.
  5. Grading is not automatic but should be easy - just grade as you would any other assignment, by reviewing the submitted certificate and giving credit for completion.

Note: Each mission has been designed to ideally be used as a coherent whole, but if you need to use just the videos, you can find them on the MCC Libraries YouTube Channel. The College Researcher is licensed through Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0), which is free to share and adapt with attribution to MCC Libraries.
