Tech Alert: Report Phishing Emails in Outlook

Next time you get an email that looks phishy to you – report it!  Since our migration to Microsoft 365/Exchange Online for Outlook email, we now have an improved option for reporting phishing emails. This is the proper process for reporting suspicious emails that ask you to click on links that direct you to provide personal information such as username and password or your cell phone number. Using the link in Outlook helps by aggregating reports so that the College can take appropriate action.

If the emails are just harmless (though annoying) promotional emails please just mark those messages as junk to reduce the volume. Users can configure junk e-mail options within Microsoft Outlook by right-clicking on messages in their Inbox and selecting Junk -> Junk E-mail Options.

To report phishing email in Outlook on the Web:

  • In the top bar the option is Report.
  • Click the down arrow and select Report phishing.
  • You can also just click on the word Report to report phishing.

To report phishing email in Outlook app on your desktop:

When reading a message, at the far right in the ribbon is Report Message.

  • Click the down arrow and select Phishing.
  • When you report a message as Phishing, it is moved to your Deleted Items folder.

NOTE!!  If you have clicked on anything within an email that you believe is phishing, call the Technology Support Line immediately

To contact Employee Technical Support, call 585-292-8324, option 3, Monday thru Friday, 8:45am to 4:45pm.
