TCC Day 2 of Kudos: Students appreciate you, professional staff!

Professional staff members are instrumental in the success of MCC students. Today, the TCC would like to highlight some of the thoughtful words of our students, as they reflect on how professional staff members have helped them in their educational and personal journeys.

  • Carly O'Keefe, GEIS
I am writing this short paragraph to thank Carly O'keefe. I am an international student and my path at MCC has been so much easier because of her help in making herself available every time and having patience with me in everything. I know she will probably say that it is her job, however, it has been so well done that I can't let this opportunity go without thanking her.
  • Dale Pearce, Athletics
Coach Dale (assistant athletic director) became the head swimming and diving coach here at MCC in the Fall of 2021. Throughout my two years here, Coach Dale has gone far and beyond what any coach, advisor, or professor at MCC would do. He has mentored so many young adults including myself and created such an amazing team bond on both last year's team and this year's current team. I have soaked in all that he says and applied it to my life. As my two years at MCC ends, I leave knowing that Dale Pearce is the ultimate coach, mentor, advisor and professor at Monroe Community College.
  • Craig Haushild, Biology
He does all of the setup and cleanup for the second-floor biology labs, and helps out on the third floor when needed. He keeps labs running smoothly, but students have no idea he is there. Because of his job's hidden nature, he does not get the recognition he deserves. He has taught me so much about the world of biology and lab practices. I am so thankful to have been able to learn from him this year, and I am so thankful for all of the work he puts in to keep our classes running.
  • Mark Basinski, Career Services
As a Career Peer Advisor at the Career Services Office, I witness first-hand Mark's incredible effect on what seems like the entire student body at times. Anyone who spends enough time around Mark knows that he will go kilometers beyond an extra mile to make sure his students feel welcome, encouraged, and inspired, regardless of their background. His continued service to Monroe Community College and the city of Rochester across several decades does not—and should not—go unnoticed.
  • Mary Silfer, Library
Mary has been extremely supportive of not just me, but a large group of students my entire time at MCC. She has gone above and beyond with helping me with my classes, proofreading papers, and just being a constant person I can rely on in general. I am very thankful for Mary and her dedication to promoting a healthy and safe environment at MCC!
  • Jacob Silberstein, TAAC
Jacob has been a delight this semester! He is very encouraging and pushes me to do my very best work. He works in tandem with Professor Flick seamlessly to enhance the academic experience of those who take advantage of him as a resource. I am very grateful for Jacob!
  • Aimee Felt, Advisement
Advisor Aimee is truly remarkable in her role. She has been instrumental in assisting me with meticulous planning of my classes from now until graduation. Aimee's expertise and guidance have been invaluable, as she possesses a deep understanding of the curriculum and its intricacies. Moreover, her remarkable patience when I ask questions is commendable; she takes the time to thoroughly address my concerns and ensures that I have a clear understanding of the subject matter. Aimee consistently goes above and beyond, always offering her assistance and support, making her an exceptional advisor who truly cares about students' academic success.
  • Kelsey Bright, Academic Services
Throughout my three years at MCC, Kelsey has been an excellent resource while I navigated the college bureaucracy, along with teaching me how to write policy to make MCC a more equitable, inclusive, and student-minded institution.  She has helped me directly by listening and answering to any of my concerns, comments, and questions relating to Academic and Student Affairs. Moreover, serving with her and several other faculty & staff members on the Academic Policies Committee has been an amazing experience. That experience has helped me decide to pursue a career in Higher Education Administration. Had I not met Kelsey, I do not believe my career goal would have been the same. Due to her incredible kindness, commitment, and her patience with my ideas, there should be no doubt in why she deserves to be nominated for a student kudo award.
  • Ivan Matthew, Counseling and Disability Services
I dropped out of college a few years ago and coming to back has been a challenge, Professor Matthew has been so kind, very patient, teaches for his students to clearly understand, helped our class understand the different degrees, he helped me believe in myself again. He is more than a professor he a bright light for students like me. Thank you, Professor Matthew!
