Nationwide Emergency Alert System TEST -Today October 4

Today there will be a test of the Emergency Broadcast System that may affect your mobile phones, TV, and radio. This test is an important part of ensuring the effectiveness of Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), the Emergency Alert System (EAS), and the nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test will last 30 minutes but your phone should receive notification  only once.

Your mobile phone will display this message during the test: "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed." Your TV and radio will present a similar message: "This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 2:20 to 2:50 pm. This is only a test. No action is required by the public."

The test will also include tones and vibrations but will not interrupt a phone call. Faculty please let your students know about the test so they are not alarmed or worried by it.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will be conducting this test in compliance with legislation enacted in 2015, which requires such tests at least once every three years. The most recent test was conducted in 2021.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we participate in this important test to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
