The Board heard presentations from:

  • Student Testimonial by Elle Parrota
  • Student Trustee Ana Santos
  • Student Success Dashboard with Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Measurements William Dixon, Director, Research
  • Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna provided the President’s Update, which included a briefing on the July 10-11 Saratoga President’s Retreat. All 64 Presidents of SUNY colleges and universities met at the invitation of Chancellor John King for a summer convening where they received highlights from the Enacted Budget, the Chancellor’s priorities for SUNY, and received and shared updates from peer institutions. In the Enacted Budget for FY’24, the State allocated $75M in Transformation Funding to be focused on enrollment, students’ success, the workforce, and operational efficiencies. A $1.1M allocation has been set aside for MCC pending SUNY’s approval of MCC’s plan of action to deliver results in related categories. Our plan will be submitted by August 15. Also, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) annual Presidents Academy Summer Institute was held in Toronto, Canada, last month and it provided the ability to engage with other Presidents in a series of professional development opportunities focused on topics essential to the presidency for the benefit of our colleges. In addition, President Burt-Nanna reported that there are some bright spots in our enrollment forecast compared to the prior year. As of July 24, New Student applications were up 9.8% (807 headcount) over the prior year for a similar period. Approved applications (19.9% over last year or 1025 headcount) as well as Registered Students (6.1% or 125 headcount) were both up over the prior year for the same period. While these numbers are unofficial and merely reflect a single point in time, one month prior to the start of the semester, the trend is encouraging in that it marks a long-awaited shift away from steep declines in enrollment to more stable (albeit a flat) enrollment pattern.
  • Dr. Robin Cole Jr., Economic & Workforce Development & Career Technical Education (EDIWS) on EDIWS activities, Dr. Calvin Gantt, Vice President, Diversity, Equity and Belonging and Executive Director, Downtown Campus on division activities; Greg Hinton, CFO/Vice President, on Administrative Services activities; Dr. Margaret Semmer, Provost & Vice President on Academic Service activities; Gretchen Wood, Vice President, Institutional Advancement and Executive Director, MCC Foundation, on Institutional Advancement activities and Foundation activities on behalf Board of Directors Chair Lori Van Dusen, including the upcoming Salute to Excellence on December 6th.
  • Shared Governance representatives, including Student Government Association President Joseph Leichtner, Faculty Senate provided a written response, President Burt-Nanna representing Administration, and Support Staff Planning Council provided a written report.
  • Faculty Association and the CSEA leaders provided written submissions.
