Green Tip: Take the Plastic Pledge

The Plastic Pollution Coalition is a global alliance of organizations, businesses and individuals who have the shared goal of helping to create a more just, equitable, regenerative world free of plastic pollution and its toxic impacts.

They offer an online pledge that focuses on 4 points:

  • Refuse – single-use plastic whenever possible. This includes choosing items not packaged in plastic, carrying reusable bags, using reusable containers and utensils, and refusing plastic straws.
  • Reuse – durable and washable containers. This includes non-toxic straws, food containers, bottles, bags and choosing glass, paper, wood, and other materials over plastic.
  • Reduce – your plastic footprint. This means cutting down on purchasing goods that contain excessive plastic packaging and/or parts.
  • Rethink – what you cannot refuse, reduce, or reuse. This means thinking about the life cycle of items that you buy and use and making other choices. Plastics leach toxic chemicals so avoid plastic containers labeled as #3 (plastic tablecloths), #6 (Styrofoam cups and bowls), and #7.

You can Take the Pledge now!

Look for more information in an upcoming article on our Break Free from Plastic Pollution program to be held on Monday, October 23 from 12pm to 1pm in the Empire Room.
