2023 Outstanding WAC Faculty Award Winner

Please extend your contratulations to Susan Bender (VaPA), this year's recipient of the Outstanding WAC Faculty Award!

Susan became WR-certified in 2019, and her SPC courses are great examples of how "writing intensive" does not need to mean onerous for students. Higher-stakes formal papers are positioned throughout the semester with plenty of context and preparation, and her assignment sheets are transparent in terms of purpose, tasks, criteria, and examples. Regular, lower-stakes occasions for writing (notes, worksheets, and discussion boards in fully-asynchronous sections) reinforce a writing-to-learn mindset, too.

The Writing Across the Curriculum committee is grateful to Susan for the part she plays in helping students grow as communicators.

Susan will be honored with this award at the Employee Recognition Ceremony on May 17.
