International Mother Language Day Event

We hope you can join us at our Spring 2024 Mother Language Day celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity.  Come hear MCC students, faculty, and staff recite poems and sing songs in their mother languages.

UNESCO proclaimed International Mother Language Day in 1999, and the United Nations General Assembly adopted it soon after that.  Since 2020, celebrations have taken place around the world every spring.

Linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear. Globally 40 percent of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand. Nevertheless, progress is being made in multilingual education with growing understanding of its importance, particularly in early schooling, and more commitment to its development in public life.”
