Happy Friday!!! Day 3 of TCC gratitude highlights kudos from students to faculty and staff. Today’s recognized academic departments are Library Services, Learning Support Systems/TAAC and Instructional Technologies.

Kudos from Faculty and Staff to Library Services

Bill Archer, (Library)

  • So helpful when it comes to student technology or our little technology glitches.  He also goes the extra mile for teachers and students to get Inter library loans. Thanks for backing us up in a crunch Bill! We appreciate you!

Steve McWilliams, (Library), Receiving 2 Nominations

  • Great job with students helping them find research material. So helpful and kind. Just a pleasure to work with!
  • I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of Steve McWilliams, one of our dedicated part-time librarians. Steve's commitment to the upkeep of the College Archives on the 4th floor of the Brighton Campus Library is truly commendable. His extensive knowledge of MCC's history ensures that inquiries about our institution's past are met with detailed and insightful responses.
Furthermore, Steve stands out for the exceptional research assistance he provides to our evening students. An excellent teacher, his patience and dedication shine through as he guides students through the research process, ensuring they receive the necessary support. Steve's unwavering commitment to enhancing the academic experience for our evening student population is truly praiseworthy.

Mary Slifer, (Library)

  • Mary Slifer is always looking for ways to promote library services and support student success by genuinely showing an interest in each student with whom she engages. She takes the initiative to make creative displays within the library and often collaborates with faculty to include information relevant to their courses in them. Mary consistently has a very positive outlook and we are grateful to have her as a colleague!

Kudos to Learning Support Systems

Martha Macdonald, (Learning Support Systems/TAAC)

  • Martha is the most welcoming, caring and helpful person working in the TAAC. She is willing to help any student and make sure they are taken care of.  She insures students get the extra help they need while making them feel comfortable when reaching out for assistance.

Kudos to Instructional Technologies

Andrea Gilbert, (Instructional Technologies)

  • Andrea is very helpful and patient!  Her expertise in Brightspace is remarkable and she gives great consultation on the best way to organize content for the user.  The success and accomplishment I am experiencing in developing new training modules is due to the amazing guidance Andrea is providing behind the scenes!

Kudos from Students to Faculty and Staff.

Each entry is arranged alphabetically. Today, we are celebrating letters H and J. Stay tune for more kudos!!!

Hanan Gahi, (Student Support Services, Trio)

  • I've been a TRIO participant for the past two semesters now. I want to recognize Mrs. Hanan for her exemplary TRIO service, making me feel comfortable and not hesitant about being in the TRIO program and participating in the differing events and workshops. Also, I appreciate the way she oversees and directs the whole system, consistently being positive and a leader who creates an inviting atmosphere for students to succeed and take advantage of the program, and find extra help in making their academic year go easier with her immense dedication and commitment to helping others.

Havva Yoruk, (Visual and Preforming Arts)

  • Havva- In my crisis and communication class I was able to learn very well. Even though this was a class that ends early she was able to not rush through information and make sure that everyone in the class understood. Overall I liked her class content as well as her teaching style. She is very nice and cares for all of her students. She made sure to make us comfortable with sharing more personal things and allowing us to talk to her after class if needed. She always stayed behind to help clarify anything that we might be confused about.

Heather Chang, (Visual and Preforming Arts)

  • Heather has been an amazing teacher. She gave me a new passion for theater and acting. She has given me a huge boost in confidence and self-esteem. Heather has helped me to find enjoyment in doing my classwork and made me proud to be a theater student.

Heather Lieb, (ESOL and Transitioning Studies)

  • Professor Lieb is one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. She is patient, kind and very supportive. She teaches with all the learning styles in mind which is so helpful because I need examples and notes to learn best. I have always hated math, but I now have a confidence in myself that I didn't have before.

James Cronmiller, (Biology)

  • Professor Cronmiller is the best bio instructor. He was able to give me a better understanding of the Diet analysis project and the terminology that I had missed from last semester. as well as being flexible when life gets difficult as well as other classes. I am so thankful to have him as an instructor.

James McCusker, ( ESOL and Transitional Studies), Receiving 2 Nominations

  • Professor McCusker is the most welcoming professor I've ever had. He created a safe environment where I felt confident enough to speak up in class. With his self-deprecating jokes and hilarious sense of humor, English 101 was never boring. Aside from his personality, he taught me more useful tips on how to write a paper in one semester than all of my high school teachers combined. He truly cares about his students' success and is always willing to make time outside of his schedule to help with anything. Thank you McCusker for enhancing my writing skills in the funniest way possible.
  • One of the sincerest professors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, he goes above and beyond for his students. He seeks to dismantle the poor writing methods high school teachers show us. His course isn't about getting a grade and moving on, he's teaching valuable skills to help students’ re-structure their thinking and apply them to real world books, films and articles. Hands down one of; if not; the best in English department. Highly recommended 12/10 course

James Senden, (English)

  • Professor Senden really stands out when it comes to professors. He comes to class every day with a positive, upbeat attitude and really makes class engaging with his students. He also offers amazing extra credits assignments, one that comes to mind is his trust walk. Professor Senden takes a step back from English and takes his students who are interested on a blind walk around campus to help us connect to our other senses, but also to reduce anxiety. there's something really freeing on going somewhere and not thinking about every obsolete thing our eyes capture on a day-to-day basis. On top of that he always checks in on his student if they seem a bit off, myself have received a handful and being a student that lives on campus, it's nice to know someone is looking out for you. Everything that we've gone over in class is the perfect mix of fascinating, informative and something just fun to learn, and be a part of the lively discussions in class. so, thank you Professor sent for everything you do, it doesn't go unnoticed by your students. and a special thank you to Vito, his very friendly service dog, and to Diane, for without her help the world would burn.

Jannette Avery, (Mathematics)

  • Professor Avery is patient and kind. Things have not been easy in my personal life, but she makes me feel like I can still achieve my goals. Thank you for being so positive and uplifting.

Jason Anderson, (Chemistry and Geosciences), Receiving 3 Nominations

  • Professor Anderson has been my Professor for Chemistry 151 and Organic Chemistry 1, and will be my professor for Organic Chemistry 2 next semester. In every class I have had with him, he has gone above and beyond with his resources to make sure students succeed in his classes. He has also given us many opportunities for extra points which other professors would not do. In addition, he is very personable, making light jokes in class that make classes like Organic Chemistry very fun to attend. He also cares about your personal life and talks with you like an equal and never makes you feel inferior. He is understanding if you have other obligations and will always help to accommodate you and make sure you have the same opportunity as everyone else in class. He is an exceptional professor and I could not imagine talking any of these classes with anyone else.
  • Dr. Anderson is a great balance of professional expert and an entertaining but effective lecturer. He is challenging yet reasonably lenient with the occasional big student ask. All course expectations are completely transparent and fair. He keeps focus on the bigger picture and doesn't overload the student with tedious detail, but makes sure to brush upon all important concepts. He could be a great teacher across a broad range of ages and topics. He makes a very challenging course fun and keeps the student curious for more.
  • Dr. Anderson has made learning chemistry so much more interesting and accessible and I really thank him for that. The way he formats his class makes it much easier to study and fully digest the content. He also is extremely helpful and understanding of personal situations.

Jason Lanker, (ESOL and Transitional Studies)

  • Dr. Lanker does an amazing job of teaching and explaining topics that come in handy in everyday life. He is very understanding and caring for his students. He is lenient but also strict. He knows how to keep his class engaged and plans fun activities. He tells terrible jokes, so terrible you cannot help but laugh. This was my first semester as a college student, and as nervous as I was, his class made me feel better. I genuinely enjoy being in his class. He is truly kind, honest, and straight forward and I admire that a lot.

  • She is a great professor and human being. She makes every class fun and exciting even though it is a hard one. She is understanding and wants to go beyond for her students.
  • Dr. Hill is not only extremely engaging in the lecture hall and lab, but she's funny too. She recognizes that the information we are learning is valuable but it is also stressful and not easy. She treats us as the young adults we are, but also shares fun stories from when she was in college studying just like us. Overall Dr. Hill makes it so I want to come to class and ask questions which makes her remarkable to learn from.

  • Professor Nyerges is a privilege to work with. He is dedicated to working with students, extending the time in his classes to help struggling students. He also writes music for the school jazz ensembles and even uses students' music to play in the ensemble. Professor Nyerges is very experienced about music and gives good feedback on your playing based on real-world experience, important for a music professor.

  • Mrs. Jordu Is amazing professor she is patient with us English is not my strong suit but she breaks it down so I can understand it. It this thing we do in class before we get started is tell what is our roses or thorn that gives us a moment is we are going through something that day we are able to share we are able to receive advise if we needed or someone that listen to us, she genuine cares she is passionate about her job she is a blessing to me I want to thank her.

Joseph Scanlon, (Anthropology, History, Political Science, Sociology)

  • Professor Scanlon is an ultra-intelligent person that makes class intriguing and something to look forward to. He genuinely cares about his students, and will go out of his way to help students succeed. He is in class helping students shine and achieve their goals no matter what. She is very supportive and has a great sense of humor, whatever math problem I have a problem understanding on the math lab she make it clear for me to understand no matter how many times I ask her the same question she never get frustrated. Thank you for having the heart and being the person you are, it means a lot to me. I need someone like that especially after not being in school for decades I appreciate all she’s has done and continues to do during our time together. She’s awesome.

Julie Arnold, (Advisement and Transfer Services)

  • Mrs. Julie Arnold is a godsend, in the sense that she can easily relate to each student's academic needs, and guide them from there. I met Mrs. Arnold during the spring semester of 2023, and she helped me immensely. Ever since, I've felt very comfortable and at ease with my academic goals, and the things I need to do, or what to look for. Despite her busy schedule after she switched from the Downtown campus to Brighton, she still continued to assist and/or direct me in the correct direction, and that's one of the many reasons why I am very thankful for her. I appreciate her tremendously and also applaud her for her dedication to helping others.
