STEM Diversity, Equity, and Belonging Workgroup--Call for New Members

This is a call for STEM faculty to collaborate with their peers on ways in which we can better support inclusiveness and belonging in our classrooms and work environments.

MCC values inclusiveness. We as a community “…commit to an environment of belonging in which everyone feels safe, valued, and respected by dismantling practices, policies, and procedures that uphold structural racism and other systemic inequities (Vision 2027 Strategic Plan).”

In observance of our commitment to providing an inclusive environment, members of the STEM Faculty Diversity, Equity, and Belonging Workgroup have been meeting to share our experiences and take steps to make our classrooms, communities, and work environments more inclusive. Meeting this commitment means fearlessly evaluating our teaching practice, course structures, student interactions, and assessment protocols.

If you are a STEM faculty member troubled by the inequities, injustices, and disparities that exist in our community and classrooms, then this group is for you! We are an active group, taking meaningful steps to address inequities in a supportive setting. Join us at our next meeting and take part in this opportunity to grow personally, professionally, and make MCC a safe space for all.

In this group, we strive to:

  • Affirm our commitment to creating fairness and equity in resources, rights, and treatment of marginalized individuals and groups of people who do not share equal power in society.
  • Strengthen our foundational understanding of racism, discrimination, and promote cultural awareness.
  • Pursue actions we can take to make our courses and programing more inclusive, accessible, and supportive.

Next meeting: Friday, October 20th from 2:00 to 3:00pm

You have the option to participate in-person in Room 3-115 or via Zoom (link below):
