MCC students took first place in 2023 University of Rochester annual pumpkin chucking competition

The Engineering Leadership Council (ELC) led MCC students from Phi Theta Kappa, SMASH Club, Maker Club, and SWE in the 2023 University of Rochester annual pumpkin chucking competition.

The MCC student team competed against UR’s BAJA team, UR’s Solar Splash team, and RIT’s ASME chapter team. Students designed and built an oversized slingshot that launched pumpkins accurately anywhere from 100 to 350 feet. MCC students secured first place by using elastic bands, a hand winch, and a crane scale (please see attached photos and video clips)

The Engineering Science and Physics Department would like to acknowledge Student Government Association, Office of Student Life/Leadership and Students Clubs. Special thanks to Burton Betchart, Todd Enright, William Hunt, Denee Martin, Jodi Oriel, David Pultorak, Benjamin Schermerhorn, Chloe Vazzana and ELC.
