Back to School Book Bag Drive

Did you know that more than 18% of MCC's student body are "Student-Parents," college students with dependent children? More than half of those Student-Parents are Single Mom Learners.

In order to support this growing population at MCC, the Single Moms Design Challenge core team, in collaboration with Student Life & Leadership will be sponsoring a bookbag drive for this upcoming school year!

If you would like to participate, please bring in new bookbags and drop them off at the following locations between August 17 and August 29:

  • Downtown Campus: Student Engagement Center, Suite 310
  • Brighton Campus: Outside the Student Life and Leadership Office, Room 3-126

Bookbags will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at both campuses.

Your generosity will help to offset the cost of preparing the children of our students for the new school year!

In spring 2019, MCC was one of only four community colleges in the nation to receive the Single Moms Success Design Challenge (SMSDC) grant. Using a human-centered design approach, the core team (Kim DeLardge, Renee Dimino, and Medea Rambish) is designing supports to help increase SMLs' rates of graduation and/or transfer to a four-year college.
