TCC: Spring Conversation #2 on Mar. 19--What Learning Looks Like Across Disciplines

How do you teach students to be able to make split-second decisions in life-and-death situations? How do you show a future educator how to identify a "teachable moment"? How can you build skills so a future chemist doesn't inadvertently cause a lab disaster?

As content experts, faculty members have expertise in the skills and ways of thinking inherent to their discipline. What are yours, and what can you add to your repertoire?

Please join the TCC for the next meeting in our Conversations series on Tuesday, March 19, 12:30 to 1:30 PM, where five faculty members will share their experiences as innovative and courageous instructors. You will have the opportunity to see learning across multiple disciplines in action and to connect with the faculty fostering that learning for our students. Participants will see footage from faculty classrooms, listen to snippets of inspiring interviews, and ask questions of the faculty panel. 

In the spirit of the book The Courage to Learn: Honoring the Complexity of Learning for Students and Educators, which has framed the TCC's programming theme for 2023-24, presenters will speak to the ever evolving landscape in the field of education and the ways that they have creatively approached instruction in their respective fields to cultivate a learning environment where students can take risks and be courageous.

This is a hybrid event, so please join us however you can: in person in Room 12-201 at the Brighton Campus or join on Zoom. All faculty and staff are welcome!

The event is designed to meet the following goal of the Teaching and Creativity Center's programming: 

  • Create a culture of critical reflection, continual growth, and collaboration for faculty at all stages of professional growth 
  • Promote evidence-based, high-impact, innovative course design and teaching strategies that improve student outcomes
