Technology Recap 2022

Since January, Technology Services has implemented several new features to help ensure the security of the information that the College is entrusted with. We strive to make these transitions as easy as is possible.

  • MFA (multi-factor authentication)

The College implemented multi-factor authentication in Spring 2022. If you have not logged into an MCC system since early spring, you will be prompted to enroll when you attempt to log in. It is simplest to set up MFA using text to start. We recommend adding and using the Microsoft Authenticator app on a mobile device. Be sure to add a second method (different home phone, dedicated office phone) in case you should lose your mobile device or leave it at home.

  •  Outlook mailbox

The College transitioned email service for faculty and staff from our existing on-premise Microsoft Exchange system to Microsoft 365's Exchange Online in Summer 2022. There are not any significant changes to your email and little that any individual needs to do to continue using the Outlook desktop client as usual.

Things that are different/need attention:

  • Outlook on the Web: After migration you will access Outlook on the Web through https://outlook.com/monroecc.edu or by logging into https://office.com and clicking on the Outlook app.

  • Outlook through myMCC: The portal team recommends these steps to access your Outlook through mymcc.monroeccc.edu (new portal). Click on Office 365/Team. Once on that page, click on "Outlook" on the left-hand side.

  • Outlook on a Mobile Device: If you read email using ActiveSync on an iOS or Android device or use the Outlook app on your phone or other mobile device (tablet, iPad), you will need to remove and re-add your account. Any contacts in your MCC outlook mailbox will also no longer display until you re-add your account. If you use the Outlook app, they will be found in the app but may not appear in the general Contact list on your mobile device until the account is re-added.

  • WiFi on Campus

You should forget MCC-CRYPTO and login using MCC for WiFi on Campus.

  • Password Expired?

Go to myaccount.monroecc.edu and select the RESET PASSWORD button. If you do not know the email or cell number requested for verification, the Employee Technology Support Center staff can assist you M-F 8:45am-4:45pm at 292-TECH (8324).

  • Cybersecurity Awareness Training

Annual training is assigned in October each year. Additional training may be assigned if an individual clicks on a simulated or real phishing email. Check your KnowBe4 Dashboard (Click on Cybersecurity Awareness Training link on the Technology (Help) tab in myMCC.) to ensure all your training is complete. Employees with past due training will have their network account passwords set to expire every seven days until all assigned training is complete.

If you have additional questions or need assistance, please call the Employee Technology Support Center M-F 8:45am-4:45pm at 292-TECH (8324).
