Associate Professor Emeritus Douglas W. Brooks, English/Philosophy

The MCC family mourns the loss of Associate Professor Emeritus Douglas W. Brooks (English/Philosophy) who passed away on April 19, 2022.

A U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War, Associate Professor Emeritus Brooks taught English at MCC for nearly 30 years and authored several published books. Professor Emeritus Brooks joined MCC as an Instructor in the English Deparment in 1987. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1993 and to Associate Professor in 2000. He will be remembered for his dedication, professionalism and enthusiastic approach to supporting student success, especially through his support and advisement of student-based organizations. A lifelong learner, he volunteered to tutor writing and personified excellence in teaching, consistently growing in his knowledge of creative writing, including poetry.

According to his obituary, his life story will be shared during visitation, 4:00-7:00 p.m. today, April 25 at Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane. His funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Avenue. Interment in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. Donations can be made in Associate Professor Emeritus Brooks’ name to Camp Good Day and Special Times, 1332 Pittsford Mendon Rd, Mendon, NY 14506.

Associate Professor Emeritus Brooks is predeceased by his mother, Eleanor Carpenter and daughter, Erin Leigh Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Toni Ann (Gaetano) Brooks; sons, Douglas (Sevinc) Brooks and Bryan (Stacie) Brooks; six grandchildren; his sister, Neila (Patrick) Melody and dear friends.
