Special Student Workshop: Using Play & Improvisation to Unleash Your Creativity

The Sixth Act and Creative Arts are hosting a special workshop on Wednesday, March 5, from 2 to 3:30 PM, in the Forum for any MCC students who might be experiencing blocks when expressing themselves, especially creatively. Here is the workshop description:

  • "Improvisation and play are key to unlocking the agency, courage, and joy of creating. This workshop invites all MCC students interested in their own creative processes to play with us. We'll help you free the possibilities already inside you, giving you tools to approach the world with renewed wonder."

Our workshop facilitator, Mike Whistler, served 15 years as the Coordinator for Theatre Arts at Montgomery County Community College, where he taught Improvisation, Acting Shakespeare, and Commedia dell'Arte. Mike worked with artists and educators at Shakespeare's Globe, London, training with "Shakespeare Works When Shakespeare Plays." He then served as the founding Managing Director of the Globe's American Center on Teaching Shakespeare at University of CA, Davis. He now lives in Rochester and is excited to work with our students in this potentially game-changing way.

Students should please RSVP to Maria Brandt at mbrandt@monroecc.edu before February 28. Students also may email Maria with any questions. Faculty and staff, please help us spread the word!
