Tech Tip: Don't Get Phished by Support-based Scams

You may have recently read in the news about attempts by cybercriminals posing as Helpdesk employees. Those criminals are trying to trick employees into installing software for remote access on their work devices via Microsoft Teams.

You should never give access to anyone to your computer unless you have reached out and contacted MCC Technical Support at 292-8324, option 3 for employees. Our support team will never attempt to initially contact you directly through Microsoft Teams. Be wary of any emails claiming to be from Tech support that come from a non-MCC email address or external user. If you receive a suspicious email through your MCC outlook email, be sure to report it using the Report Message in the Outlook ribbon

For support at MCC, contact us by phone at 292-8324(TECH), option 3 or by emailing us at Help (Communications and Network Services). In some cases, MCC Employee Technical support may ask you to give permission for remote access but only while they are on the phone with you.

Be alert and know that cybercriminals love to pose as a trusted source like tech support to lure you into allowing them to access your computer. If you receive a communication that you are not sure about, when in doubt, call our published number – 585-292-8324, option 3.

If you receive a message to contact a software provider or vendor, never use a phone number or click on a link that appears on your screen or in an email. Always check for their published number by doing a direct search.

You are an important part of preventing cyber-crime!  Stay alert!
