2019 Diversity Conference
The 2019 MCC Diversity Conference is scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2019, from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM on the Brighton Campus in the Warshof Conference Center, R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A/B). The Conference will also be streamed to the Downtown Campus. The theme for this year's conference is from Trauma and Grief to Resilience and Recovery.
The conference will explore the socio-historical and cultural factors that impact how trauma-informed care is practiced when taking into consideration issues of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other environmental factors. Trauma-informed care recognizes the pervasive nature of trauma and promotes environments of healing and recovery, rather than practices and services that may inadvertently re-traumatize. Speakers will address areas of trauma experienced by under-served populations and ways to avoid triggering or exacerbating symptoms. The conference will inform discussions about how college- and community-based services and learning environments can deliver holistic student supports.
This event is free and open to the public. Please register online by September 20, 2019. Space is limited to the first 150 registrants. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Please direct questions to MCC's Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Calvin J. Gantt, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (585) 292-2023.
