Details About Medical Insurance Coverage to Age 29

Over the summer months, the New York State Legislature passed legislation to allow adult children to keep or obtain medical insurance. Under this legislation, your children who are too old to be covered under our MCC coverage on a family-type plan, but who are less than age 30, may be eligible to enroll in a Single Plan through MCC effective January 1, 2010.

To enroll, the children must be unmarried, residing or working in New York State, and not eligible for or covered by another health insurance, (i.e., if working, an employer’s health plan.)  Similar to COBRA, the employee or adult children are responsible for the cost, which is 100% of the single premium for the plan the employee has.  Examples include:  Blue Point 2 Enhanced, $428.30 a month;  Blue Point 2 Standard, $377.26 a month, and Excellus Blue PPO, $440.94 a month.   To learn more about this coverage please contact Karen Rheinheimer in Human Resources.  Enrollments for the plan are being taken during the month of November, during open enrollment, for coverage beginning 1/1/2010.
