The Affordable Care Act requires health insurers in the large group market to spend at least 85 percent of the premiums they receive on health care services and activities to improve health care quality. For 2011, MCC’s health care insurer, Excellus, exceeded that amount, spending 90.9 percent of their premium revenues from small and large groups on medical benefits. We are required to inform you of this. Please see the attached communication from Excellus regarding their Medical Loss Ratio for 2011.
