Academic Grade Grievance Policy Executive Summary of Feedback Received from the Policy Portal

The Academic Grade Grievance Policy and Procedure were posted on MCC’s policy portal for 30 days ending 5/9/22.  The follow was the only comment submitted: “Policies are effective and fair to all parties only when actually followed by all parties. Unfortunately, students have been allowed to take their complaints directly to the Provost level without ever having addressed the issue with the instructor.”

Our process for student complaints directs the student to seek resolution with the instructor prior to elevating the complaint to the next level.  While students do occasionally go to the President’s Office or the Provost with their complaint, they are immediately directed back to the department for further discussions.  The new grievance policy echoes this process.
