MCC Daily Tribune
Congratulations Dr. Michael Jacobs, Appointed as Provost and Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs
Dear MCC Faculty, Staff and Students,
Pending the MCC Board of Trustees’ approval on June 10, 2024, Dr. Michael Jacobs will be appointed to the position of Provost and Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), effective July 1, 2024. Dr. Jacobs has served in this role in an acting capacity since April 1, 2024, and will continue to do so until his appointment date.
Dr. Jacobs previously served MCC as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and brings to this new position 22 years of higher education experience, including roles as a professor, department chair, and dean overseeing three academic schools at Monroe Community College. Since joining MCC in 2017, he has led institution-wide initiatives in line with the college's mission, including the Unlocking Opportunity Network and the development of new liberal arts programs. Dr. Jacobs is a nationally recognized figure in community college humanities education, serving as Chair of the Modern Language Association’s Committee on Community Colleges and (formerly) Deputy Director for the Community College Humanities Association. Moreover, he has contributed scholarly essays on modernist literature and humanities education to several peer-reviewed publications.
I am confident that Dr. Jacobs will continue to provide the leadership to ensure the work we do will directly benefit MCC students.
An acting Dean for Humanities and Social Sciences will continue to serve in Dr. Jacobs’s prior role until this position has been approved for posting and a permanent replacement identified.
Provost and Vice President Jacobs’s offices are located in the Academic Services Provost & Vice President suite, Spina Administration Building, 1-309 C, and at the Downtown Campus in 3-310 A, where he will also maintain regular office hours.
