Dr. Mary Ann M. DeMario Presents Her Student-Parent Research at Two National Conferences

On May 12, Mary Ann M. DeMario (IR) presented at a symposium created by the College Promise.  A national, non-partisan initiative focused on increasing the social, economic, and civic mobility of Americans through accessible higher education, College Promise operates across 48 states.  It pays particular attention to high risk sub-groups of students, such as Student-Parents.  Mary Ann’s presentation was titled “Leveraging Data to Better Serve Ecosystems of Students: Student-Parents.”  She was invited to present by a colleague of hers from the national Student-Parent movement who previously worked in the Obama White House.

On May 19, Mary Ann spoke at a second conference at the invitation of another national colleague of hers.  The conference, the National Student Parent Support Symposium, takes place at the Ohio State University each year.  The presentation, titled “Student-Parents at the State Level: Collecting Parenting Status in Your State,” was led by Student-Parent advocates and experts from Oregon, California, and Maryland.  It was a forum intended to educate attendees about how and why colleges should collect data on students’ parental status.
