10 Things to Know During the Last Week of Classes

With the last day of classes less than a week away, following are the "Top 10" things to know:

  1. SUNY joins me and members of the President's Cabinet in recognizing your resiliency, courage, and innovative efforts to safely serve our students during the fall semester.
  2. We need to stay vigilant about following health and safety protocols to protect ourselves and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
  3. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 cases are rising. The more closely you interact with others and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spread.
  4. Take extra precautions on campus and off. For example, do not directly touch door knobs and door handles; keep these items handy: a mask, tissues, and a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  5. If you decide to engage in public activities, continue to protect yourself by practicing everyday preventive actions.
  6. New York state's Cluster Action Initiative continues to evolve; testing rules within micro-cluster focus zones are specifically for K-12 schools, not colleges and universities.
  7. The final pooled testing sessions of the fall semester will be held 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15. at the Brighton Campus; no appointment is necessary. January pooled testing dates will be shared soon.
  8. To date, we have conducted 4,600 pooled tests and identified 19 positive cases in total.
  9. Employees and students who are part of positive pooled test are contacted immediately by MCC Health Services or Public Safety via text or call and must quarantine on a precautionary basis. (See Chief Tony Perez's article about pooled testing notifications.)
  10. Remember, MCC will be closed with no access to campus from Dec. 24 - Jan. 3, 2021.

At the start of the fall semester, we recognized that safely delivering exceptional learning experiences during a pandemic, under everchanging state and local rules, was an enormous challenge. You have met that challenge and our more than 500 December graduates and their families are grateful.
