TCC (Downtown): Fall Conversation #1 - Who Are Our Students?
Please join us on October 23, from 12:00-12:50 p.m., in DC room 404, for the first of the Teaching and Creativity Center's Downtown Campus Fall 2019 Conversations: "Who Are Our Students?"
What do you know about the students you work with, whether in the classroom or in some other capacity?
The 2019-20 TCC theme is A Year with Bandwidth Recovery: Helping Students Reclaim Cognitive Resources Lost to Poverty, Racism, and Social Marginalization by Cia Verschelden. Verschelden's book focuses on the deleterious effects that structural racism, economic scarcity, and social ostracism have on the brains and bodies of students.
John J. Delate, Associate Vice President of Student Services, will help us frame these matters in terms of MCC's students. Understanding our student population can give us insight to help guide teaching decisions and how we interact with students. At this event we will discuss demographics, some of the obstacles students face that interfere with learning, and ways we can transform our classrooms as well as this campus into more equitable sites for learning.
All faculty and staff are welcome.
