Quotes That Inspire

If you are missing campus as much as I am, you will enjoy the video shared by Professor Jim Downer from our Visual and Performing Arts Department. His video concludes with a quote that may be more relevant now than when it was first spoken in 1963.

According to Jim, "During the Spring semester of 2019, between classes, I'd explored the campus; openly recording the humanity passing in and out of our classrooms. This short video, Carousel was the result of my research/artwork. The orchestration became a record; a portrait of the people we serve; our students.

"Beneath it is a quote from John F. Kennedy that best embodies its allegory. In it, I find inspiration in the great diversity and inclusiveness that makes the College what it is. I miss being on campus and sharing the days among our students."

"If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal." ― John F. Kennedy, 35th U.S. President

Thank you, Jim, for visually capturing the beauty of diversity and our students on campus. Most importantly, thank you for sharing your inspirational art when we needed its power the most.

As it is safe to do so, we will return to campus.

Is there a quote that motivates you that you'd like to share with our colleagues? If so, please submit it along with a brief narrative about why the quote resonates for you to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes That Inspire" are featured on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
