Save the Date: TCC Teaching & Learning Conference on June 9!

This year’s TCC theme is “Cultivating a Growth Mindset,” which stems from Carol Dweck’s work in cognitive psychology. Throughout the year, TCC events have focused on learning about growth mindset from a number of angles. Our featured speakers, Dr. Ania Majewska and Dr. Christopher Niemiec, from the University of Rochester, will approach how their respective fields of neuroscience and psychology can help us understand the workings of the brain and how this can help us better serve students.

Ania Majewska, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Neuroscience (SMD) and the Center for Visual Science A&S (RC) at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Her research focuses on imaging synaptic structure and function in the visual system, and recent publications explore how brain cell pruning is a critical part of maintaining a healthy brain. Christopher Niemiec, Ph.D., is a senior lecturer and research associate at the University of Rochester. His research focuses on human motivation, emotion, and personality in social contexts from the perspective of self-determination theory. Following the opening presentation, we will offer two sets of workshops for attendees. Session 1 will revive conversations from this year’s TCC programming, and the Session 2 conversations will explore how various ideas and principles within individual disciplines relate to the concept of growth mindset.
