Advising ESOL Students

If you are advising students who have taken ESL courses, and have questions about ESOL placement, prerequisites, or non-ESL course recommendations by English level, support is available.

First, review the Notes in Degree Works. You’ll see who has worked with a student in the past, if the student has met English, math, and science prerequisites, and if current ESOL professors recommend ESL electives for the student (ESL 139 Pronunciation, ESL 158 Oral Communication, or ESL 179 Grammar).

The online MCC Advising Handbook is available on the Professional Development tab in Blackboard and is updated regularly. For ESOL resources, go to Chapter 6: Placement Information > English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Pam Fornieri, ESOL faculty, is available to provide mini-training sessions or answer questions as needed. Email pfornieri@monroecc.edu or call (585) 292-2354.
