AAWCC Native American Heritage Month Guest Speaker on Campus Today
On behalf of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) Committee and in celebration of Native American Heritage Month, we invite you to join us for a special presentation by guest speaker Kimberly Fuqua today at 1:00 p.m. in Monroe A and B.
Kimberly Fuqua is a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. She currently resides just outside of Syracuse, NY, where she works at Onondaga Community College, supporting the Native student population as the Assistant Director of Housing and Student Conduct. With over 15 years of experience in education and higher education, Kimberly is passionate about helping students succeed.
She graduated from Cornell University in 2021 with a Master of Public Administration and has also studied in England. Kimberly earned her bachelor's degree in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2019.
Outside of her professional life, Kimberly is a mother of two, grandmother of two, and enjoys life in Central New York with her partner and her mother.
The presentation will highlight the struggles and success of Native Americans throughout history and today. Topics discussed will be MMIW, common misconceptions about Natives, Native education past and present.
