Monroe County Legislature Approves Increased Financial Support for MCC

On Tuesday evening (August 9), by a unanimous vote, the Monroe County Legislature approved MCC’s 2022-2023 operating budget of $109.4 million. The County’s sponsor contribution to MCC totals $20.4 million and includes an increase of $750,000.

The Legislature also unanimously approved an amendment to the county’s Capital Improvement Program budget to finance the construction of a $34.6 million applied technologies center on the Brighton Campus. The Legislature’s support is an important step toward securing state approval of the CIP budget.

With Monroe County’s increased financial support, MCC will be in a firm position to strengthen student recruitment, enrollment and retention efforts—which are our top priorities. We plan to update lab equipment, enhance student tutoring programs, and continue to grow scholarship programs to increase student success.

The ATC project would move critical technology programs from MCC's current facility on West Henrietta Road and house them in a state-of-the-art center connecting them with the college's science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs. The new facility would continue offering career programs that train students at the current MCC site: in automotive technology; precision machining; and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

The county’s increased investment comes at a time when we have redoubled our efforts to attract and retain students by providing more programs and support services to better meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population and ever-changing economy. Some of these efforts include the addition of microcredentials — high-quality, stackable credentials designed for today's learner.

MCC’s commitment to accountability continues as we do our part to help Monroe County educate and transform lives, restore economic prosperity, and promote racial justice, equity and equality.

In addition to thanking our County legislators, please join me in expressing gratitude to Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Administrative Services Greg Hinton and his team for their leadership and hard work leading to the successful passage of the budget.
